No. The bottom knives are not designed to be sharpened, as sharpening would alter the precise cutting measurement and affect accuracy. Each pair of bottom knives is individually adjusted and calibrated to fit the specific mitring machine. If the bottom knives become worn or cause cutting issues, they must be replaced with a new set to ensure continued precision and performance.
Place the moulding in the machine and adjust the rebate supports according to the size and shape of the moulding. The moulding can be cut either in two cuts or in multiple “bite-by-bite” cuts, depending on its width. Wider mouldings require more incremental cuts to ensure precision and control.
The knife adjustment is made using the handle. Regardless of moulding size, the final cut should always be a two-step process, with the last cut being the so-called “trim-cut”. This final cut ensures a completely smooth and precise surface finish.
High cutting precision is achieved through correct adjustment of the machine, proper positioning of the moulding, and sharp, correctly aligned knives. It is important that there is no gap between the knives, as this will affect the accuracy of the cut. The final “trim-cut” ensures a smooth and precise surface finish.
